fragile at art piece gallery
Concern for the environment is as central to the work of the artists in fragile, as it to those in artsCape.  Both in subject matter and through the use of natural and recycled materials, they bear witness to environmental degradation and pay homage to the simplicity and intrinsic beauty in the palette of the natural world – the twig, the leaf, shell and flotsam.
Louise Saxton’s tree, “Weep”, assembled from 1000 fragments of reclaimed lace (pictured) is an interpretation of the Tree of Life and a metaphor for the vulnerability of endangered species including the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo and the Koala.  Other contributing artists include Christine Willcocks, Lae Oldmeadow, Lucille Martin, Linelle Steptoe, Wanda Bennett (QLD), Aly de Groot (NT) and others.
fragile opens 6pm Friday July 2, exhibition runs until 31 July
